Common tools of the small business

Posted under Business by admin on Tuesday 22 November 2011 at 8:35 am

Whether you are a small business owner or consumer chances are you have used printed address labels. They are very convenient and can save a ton of time especially if you are doing large mailings for direct to consumer advertising or mailing to friends. The customized labels can now be created with a logo or image that you create or supply and this helps to give the letter or envelope more of a personal feel. Those that are printing in house can save some additional money on toner cartridges by purchasing toner refills. While you may be thinking why not use the PC and print up address labels using your printer there are reasons that a pre-printed label can be much easier. It is quicker for those that are not as technically inclined or do not have access to PC when they need to mail out items.

Even having a self inking date stamp is great and one that we have used in our business as it will automatically change the date and makes it very convenient for some invoices. The date stamps are an essential part of any business that deal in contracts or legal documents. The date a contract is recorded or sealed can mean a substantial gain depending on the contract. And if you bought a home or refinances a loan lately you will see the date stamp come out to stamp all those documents that you are going to sign. Plus they carry with them a seal so that the legality of the date and contract that you are signing. Finding the right stamps is now easier than ever thanks to companies like Rubber Stamp Champ that offer a large selection of self inking stamps that will accommodate any size of business. Plus they even offer free shipping on order of $10 or more so it is economical for the individual user.

Getting help with your online marketing

In order to attract and retain customers your site needs to be easy to navigate, easy to find, and be able to track and create a unique experience once the customer does find your site.Web design is the first step in putting your business on the web. There are more than enough web design firms where price and ability are vastly different. In order to choose the right vendor who is going to meet your specific needs, you need to sit down with them and go over their capabilities and what they have done for other companies.Companies that understand marketing trends and that can help you spot the right one will be invaluable to your business. Since these companies are in the design you would expect that their websites are designed to impress. So I would not go based on the look of the front page alone. You need to understand what they will do in house versus sending to an outside firm. For example, do they have the resources and knowledge to not only give you the front end appeal, but also be able to design the back end database and tracking tools to help you succeed.

There are new and innovative offerings that can help combine services to help you in your branding and online marketing. This service leverages the link building capabilities of press releases with optimized keyword searches that are picked up by the major search engines. Since most press releases can be carried out over 1000′s of sources, building in the keyword, and backlinks to the client helps to maximize this channel and achieve faster results for their clients. Imagine having your site rise to the first page results on search engines in as little as 3 weeks. This type of recognition is usually only attainable through some very serious marketing.

Awards for best online savings

First checking with the Coupongurus.com first!

guruOur first stop on the holiday tour will be Halloween, then the fixings from Thanksgiving, that big shopping Friday after Thanksgiving, and then Christmas and the New Year to finish out the year. This is the time of the year retailers love, because they all know people are going to be buying lots of candy, food, and gifts for their friends, family, and co-workers. If you take just a little time to look online , you can save so much money over the next 3 months and that’s money you will have in your pocket to start off the New Year with or to buy more gifts for everyone!

I think electronics will be the topic in my household this Christmas. I will be looking to see who has the best deals in electronics and right now I think I am leaning toward the AT&T coupons s to make most of all of my electronic purchases. I really like some of the things they are offering and the prices are the cheapest I have found. It even gets cheaper when I can use those promo codes I can get from coupongurus.com.

FTC new guidelines on online advertising

Posted under Business,Marketing by admin on Friday 13 November 2009 at 3:37 pm

The Federal Trade Commission or FTC is stepping up and plan to target bloggers and other people that make claims or endorse products or services. These really aren’t new rules, they are just now deciding to enforce old rules that were created back in 1980. Basically the FTC is stepping in between advertisers and people that host places for these advertisements and making sure that the person doing the hosting is not making false claims about a product or service they are being paid to advertise. What does this mean? Well it means you can’t lie; unless you disclose that the advertiser is paying you money and then you’re allowed to speak highly of the advertiser’s product or lie.

It isn’t clear right now what the punishment would be or how they will even go about enforcing it. I can only imagine that the complaint letters to various companies and celebrity figures will go up as people try and figure what the new guidelines actually mean. If you have a blog and have always thought you could say anything you wanted to (since you do have free speech) and didn’t think any harm could come to you; then you might want to check some recent news about blogs and bloggers.

Can you be rewarded online

Posted under Business,Entertainment by admin on Tuesday 3 November 2009 at 11:32 pm

The advertisers are always looking for a new way to promote something or trying to find a new market for their product or service. One of the things that has really been hot over the last couple of years is advertising in blogs. This is a great way for advertisers to get extra links from blogs and get them pointing toward their websites, so they can achieve higher rankings in the search engines. People that use search engines are looking for something specific and being listed high on related search terms is a good way to get a target audience. For example if you take Samuel Foti who received the Huebner Gold Medal in recognition of his service and contribution to The American College. This is just one accolade in a long career in the financial and insurance industry where Mr. Foti is currently the President and Chief Operating Officer of The MONY Group. The advertisers have been taking advantage of this for a few years now and they know the value of blog ads for helping them promote things online.

Once you have your target audience in mind then there are several avenues and social outlets where you can create content and buzz about your awards and recognition. The best way is to have bloggers pick-up your accolades then post to their blogs and then have that picked on Twitter where once it is re-tweeted can have the power of thousands of people looking at your profile and raising awareness.

Many search analytics companies like Omniture have in place tools and software to help businesses understand the new search engines and what exactly companies should be paying attention too. • Use terms that match the concept of your search
  • Using a “description” meta-tag with accurate information can boost your SEO rankings. Besides the title of the article having a concise description will draw users in and make them more likely to read and click through your articles

Hosted predictive dialers for attorneys

Posted under Business by admin on Saturday 5 September 2009 at 12:41 pm

For many attorneys they and their firms are compensated by what they can produce. This can especially true for the specialized law firms that focus on collections and need to be able to get their payment without the added expense of multiple layers of collectors. One solution that we were reading about from IAT is called hosted predictive dialing. What this does is enable clients to pre-dial numbers while their employees are on the other line. This tool will enable a firm of company the ability increase their outbound calls by 2-3 times decreasing the number of additional resources needed to handle this labor intensive task.
With hosted predictive dialers you are in essence paying as you go with no hardware to buy and no minimum or maximum number of calls. This solution that can be found through experts like IAT you will be able to handle additional outbound calls without the need for a large capital outlay and can be customized for even small law firms or businesses. They offer consultants, webinars, and onsite training to help their customers understand the value and where this tool can help in their business.

The Camera Shop Revisited

Posted under Business by admin on Wednesday 15 July 2009 at 7:27 am

I have already written about my friend who is working on opening a camera shop, with top of the range equipment, rather than the run of the mill camer you can buy in the big electrical stores.

He has made arrangements with various suppliers for the basic stock that his shop will have to hold, and has organized insurance for all the stock in case of fire, flood (of which we get quite a few in the course of the winter) and other events, such as theft or storm damage.

He now has the glass cases already in the shop, the till, the receipt printer, the credit card machine, fire extinguishers. It is all coming together. He hopes to open on the 1st August, and I shall be going to the grand opening and drink to the health of his shop with a nice glass of Cava!

Deceptive Ease

Posted under Business by admin on Tuesday 30 June 2009 at 4:13 am

Anyone could be forgiven for believing that it is easy making money on-line. After all, we are bombarded with adverts day in day out, stating that this ‘automatic system, once set, will make you a millionaire in one or two weeks’, all without any effort on your part.

Anyone who has been trying to make a living on the internet for more than six months, knows that the reality is not quite like that. The only sure and steady way to make money on the internet is to sell either a product or service (your own or someone else’s as an affiliate) and of course to find buyers for that product.

Selling is not a natural born instinct in most of us, and for that reason there will always be people who do ‘all the right things’ but still make no sale, whereas others within the same company seem to be doing much better.

My guess is that the people who do best on the internet are those who understand that selling, like any other profession, takes learning.  Sales training is a good idea, it will help you market yourself, your opportunity or product and your service. It will teach you to follow up with your clients, to understand what makes someone buy from you rather than from someone else. We would not expect to become doctors without any training, so why would selling be any different.

You Have To Have Insurance

Posted under Business by admin on Saturday 20 June 2009 at 12:55 am

Well, I must admit that for years I felt my mother was a great pessimist. She always insured everything and anything ‘just in case’. But now I have my own business and of course I need to have insurance for every eventuality. I also have friends who have lost almost everything they had because their house was flooded and they had no cover for the contents of the house.

Then really it is just a case of finding the best free insurance quotes. Personally I would never pay for a ‘quote’ because as far as I am concerned I am a potential customer and need to be able to compare prices on various insurance options without having to pay in advance for that.

When comparing quotes also bear in mind that cheapest is not always best. Read what is, and what is not, covered by the different policies. Some people think they are insured for something and then when making a claim, find that in fact the one event that did happen was outside the scope of the policy. That could be a disaster. With the many on-line facilities open to us now, checking and rechecking that policies cover what you want them to cover is not such a long drawn-out process as in pre-internet days.  Also find out what the particular insurance company understands by ‘An Act of God’, as generally you cannot insure against that, and definitions of an Act of God vary from company to company.

Eco friendly trade shows

Posted under Business by admin on Wednesday 10 June 2009 at 10:50 pm

We’re all trying to be more environmentally aware these days, and a great way to do that is to buy pre-owned products that are still in great shape. For businesses, that means buying used trade show displays instead of new ones. While new displays can still be eco-friendly, buying a used trade show booth means that no additional resources had to be used to create another display.

The only thing better than being eco-friendly is saving money, and with a used trade show display, you can do both. Pre-owned displays cost much less than comparable new displays, and the savings you’ll get from buying used can be put towards accessories like banner stands, literature racks, and flooring – all things that will draw more people to your display. Save your company some money and do the environment a favor by buying a used trade show display from Trade Show Joe. It’s a decision you won’t soon regret.

Comparing Businesses

Posted under Business by admin on Thursday 4 June 2009 at 3:15 am

I have my own little business, which requires no office, no stock, no supplies, just people power and a good line of communication. This can be a pity, because the cost of an office could be charged back against tax, so we are looking into appointing a room in our house to become an office, and claiming part of the rent back towards tax. This was thought up by our clever accountant, which I suppose is what we pay him for.

My friend is opening a shop, which is infinitely more complicated. He has recently arrived from England, and wants to open a camera and mobile phone shop. Not just any old cameras, but top of the range merchandise with mirror reflex etc, not stuff I understand really. He has to acquire premises, shop for wholesale electronics, hire staff, get electricity, fax, telephone etc connected. All a lot more difficult than running a small business from home.

I hope his business runs well, his wife is my best friend and it is great to have her here instead of in the UK, I am hoping she will come and work with me because she is a trained nurse and she will be a great asset to my business.

Our Lawyer Yet Again

Posted under Business by admin on Friday 22 May 2009 at 11:11 am

I have written previously about the laborious process of incorporating our business. Today we again had a meeting with our lawyer and our accountant, to try and get things moving. Nothing moves very fast here, except the traffic, so it may be a while yet before I have something definite to write.

In the meantime I have been swatting up on the difference between term life insurance, whole life insurance and critical ilnness/injury insurance. It seems we may need all of them for one reason or another and then we will also need Public Liability Insurance on top of all that.

I guess I was being kind of naive when I thought a couple of visits to the lawyer and the accountant would sort everything, the wheels of authority grind slowly but surely and eventually we will get the business we really wanted.

Until that day we will just carry on as we are now and hoping we stay alive and healthy.
